A fire safety and earthquake preparedness training and drill was held at Rajshahi University of Engineering & Technology (RUET) with the participation of teachers, students, officers, and staff. The training session was organized by the Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) and took place on Saturday, July 12, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Razzak attended the event as the chief guest. Teachers, students, officers, and staff from four departments under the Faculty of Civil Engineering and six departments under the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering took part in the training. The session was conducted by the skilled team of Fire Service and Civil Defence, Rajshahi, under the supervision of Assistant Director Mohammad Didarul Alam.
Following the inauguration of the training and drill, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. S. M. Abdur Razzak said,
“RUET has several student dormitories and important laboratories that house valuable equipment and accommodate thousands of students receiving hands-on education. Therefore, to enable students and staff to effectively respond to emergencies such as short circuits or earthquakes, this drill was organized. We are grateful for the direct support of the skilled members of the Bangladesh Fire Service.”
He further added,
“Hands-on training like this is essential not only for saving lives but also for the protection of assets. Knowledge and awareness of fire safety is no longer optional—it is the need of the hour. Beyond theoretical understanding, the ability to make quick and correct decisions during emergencies is a hallmark of a responsible and aware citizen. Such training fosters mental resilience among teachers, students, officers, and staff in dealing with disasters. The opportunity to learn practically how to keep oneself and others safe during a fire is undoubtedly commendable.”
The workshop was presided over by Professor Dr. Md. Emdadul Hoque, Director of IQAC. Heads of relevant departments, faculty members, students, officers, and staff from the participating faculties were present at the event.
It is worth mentioning that the training and drill program will conclude on Sunday, July 13, with the participation of four departments under the Faculty of Electrical and Computer Engineering.
